Filmed 2/7/2013 - Episode 6 of the series "Disc Golf Champions of the Carolinas" profiles Indian Trail, N.C.'s, Stan McDaniel, the name synonymous with Charlotte disc golf. McDaniel won his first PDGA Masters world crown in 1994 in Port Arthur, Texas, defeating Bob Vanderboss in a playoff. Two years later, Stan took top Masters honors at South Bend, Indiana, distancing himself by 4 strokes over Dr. Rick Voakes. Worlds came back to Charlotte in 1997, and McDaniel surprised no one by lapping the Masters field by 23 strokes. McDaniel was awarded the Bob West Memorial Sportsmanship Award in 1992. A Disc Golf Hall of Fame inductee in 2001, he was named Microtel's Disc Golfer of the Year in 2008. As a course designer, McDaniel has lent his talents to some of the best-known and -rated courses in Charlotte, including Hornet's Nest, Renaissance and Nevin. His work on the course has earned him the respected nickname of "Mule #1." Future episodes will feature golfers either born in or residing in the Carolinas at the time of their PDGA or USDGC championships, either on the professional or amateur level.
